Getting A Surgery Date
When I got home that evening, my head was spinning….there had been so much information thrown at me. Yet I knew one thing – I did NOT want to delay any surgery. This lump was a “sitting duck” in my breast, who knows what or where this thing was going to go next. I called Dr. Newnham the following day and asked him to arrange the surgery as soon as possible. We were now at about the last week of May. He said he would call back and let me know.
In the meantime, I went to work on letting family and friends know of what I had decided… and of course my Employer who happens to also be a good friend. I figured I would want to take a month off so I could slowly get back into the normal day to day activities without feeling stressed about work. By the time Dr. Newnham called me back, I was hoping he would say “let us do the surgery next week…” but he said let us go for June 5th, Monday, bright and early! So I in essence, had about ten days to get used to the idea. Everything was now in full speed ahead mode, just how I wanted it…..as all I wanted to do was get this over with, and get the recovery going.
How I stayed sane….
Many friends have asked HOW I kept my sanity and positivity during this time period. Meaning from the start — March 17th when I had the biopsy to this point – now facing a double mastectomy. Easy. I have faith. I prayed hard, day and night. I also felt that I should keep exercising as much as possible to release those well needed endorphins. So, I went to the gym almost everyday. Now I am spoilt as I have two gyms in my neighborhood. I would walk over, and spend a good hour and a half in there, lifting weights and then doing a nice cardio or HIIT sesh on the treadmill.

In the next and final post – my main surgery…emergency surgery…recovery and how it’s going – four and half months later!
Love,
Neenie
